Underground Asset Locating Sydney
Find, Verify and Record the Assets Your Records Have Lost
Underground asset locating goes beyond live service detection. It identifies buried infrastructure that no longer appears on any plan: abandoned mains, decommissioned tanks, forgotten pits, redundant conduit and structures left behind by earlier site uses. Across Sydney we detect, verify and document these assets so owners and developers know exactly what they have inherited.
We work with facility managers, asset owners, environmental consultants, developers and industrial operators throughout the Sydney basin. Every asset located is recorded with position, depth and confidence level, producing a register you can act on rather than a set of paint marks that wash away.
Buried Assets We Locate Across Sydney Sites
Abandoned and Redundant Services
Decommissioned water mains, disused gas lines and dead electrical conduit routinely survive site redevelopment. We identify them and confirm whether they are live, so demolition and excavation planning is based on fact.
Underground Storage Tanks
Former service stations, depots and industrial sites often retain buried fuel, oil or chemical tanks. GPR and EMI detect tank position and extent to support environmental assessment and removal planning.
Pits, Chambers and Voids
Access chambers, valve pits, disused basements and subsurface voids are located and dimensioned. Voids in particular carry collapse risk under plant loading and are worth confirming before works begin.
Drainage and Stormwater Networks
Historic drainage frequently predates any digital record. We trace network alignment, invert levels and connectivity using CCTV and sonde, rebuilding a usable picture of how the system runs.
Structural and Reinforcement Elements
Buried footings, slabs, reinforcement and anchor points are detected where excavation or penetration is planned, avoiding damage to structural elements that no longer appear on drawings.
Building a Reliable Asset Picture on Undocumented Sydney Sites
Older Sydney industrial precincts, port and depot land, hospital campuses and university sites carry layers of infrastructure from multiple eras. Plans are frequently missing, superseded or simply wrong, and a single detection method will not resolve that on its own.
We run a staged approach. Records research establishes what should be there, EMI and GPR sweeps establish what actually returns a signal, and CCTV or potholing confirms the assets that matter most. The output is an asset register with an honest confidence level attached to each entry, which is far more useful to an owner than a plan that looks certain and is not.

Deliverables From an Asset Locating Survey
You receive a mapped asset register showing position, depth, dimensions where measurable, and the detection method used for each item. Assets are supplied in PDF, DWG, 12d or GeoJSON so the record can be loaded into your GIS, asset management system or design environment.
On-site marking is applied where excavation is imminent, with photographic records and site references so assets can be relocated on a later visit. Every entry carries an AS 5488 Quality Level, making it clear which assets are physically confirmed and which are inferred.
Due Diligence, Compliance and Liability
Asset locating supports due diligence on acquisition, environmental assessment, demolition planning and ongoing asset management. Surveys are completed to AS 5488.1:2019 by CertLoc accredited locators who are fully certified and insured.
Undocumented buried assets are a recognised source of program delay, cost overrun and contamination liability. A documented locate transfers that risk from assumption into a record you can rely on and produce when it is questioned.
Cost and Scheduling for Underground Asset Locating in Sydney
Asset locating is scoped by site area, expected asset density and the depth of verification required. Detection and marking surveys begin from $XYZ. Full asset registers with drafted plans, CCTV verification and potholing confirmation are quoted per project after a site review.
Small sites are typically completed in a single visit with the register returned within three to five business days. Large industrial or campus sites are staged by zone so results are usable as they are produced. After-hours and weekend attendance is available where site operations cannot be interrupted.
